Community Safety Minister Michelle Roberts today welcomed the move by the director of Liquor Licensing to indefinitely suspend the licence of the Metro City nightclub in Northbridge.

Mrs Roberts said the decision sent a clear message to all nightclub owners that they must fulfil all their obligations and be accountable under the liquor licensing laws.

“The Gallop Government is committed to cleaning up the Northbridge area and we support any moves that crack down on those who flout the law,” she said.

“The Northbridge curfew is having a significant impact on boosting community safety in this popular adult entertainment zone.

“Our recently announced ‘Nightsafe’ policy - which gives police metal detectors and increased powers to ban patrons from nightclubs - will also ensure that people can enjoy a night out without fear of assault or confrontation.

“I applaud this decision which puts nightclub owners on notice that they must be accountable under the law.”
