Renowned burns doctor Fiona Wood was the only choice for Australian of the Year, Premier Geoff Gallop said today.
Dr Wood was crowned Australian of the Year tonight in a ceremony in Canberra ahead of interstate candidates such as the founder of charity Angel Flight, Bill Bristow and actors Nicole Kidman and David Gulpilil.
“Dr Wood is an extraordinary Western Australian and an extraordinary Australian,” Dr Gallop said.
“She has achieved so much and helped and inspired so many.
“Dr Wood is an eminently worthy winner of this very prestigious award and I know all Western Australians will join me in offering sincere congratulations to her.”
