Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse has been given a State Government grant aimed at boosting tourism amenities and attracting more investment into the district.
South-West Minister Bob Kucera presented a $65,500 grant to the general manager of the Augusta Margaret River Tourism Association, Pauline McLeod, this week.
The funding was part of the State’s 2003-04 Regional Development Scheme funding.
“It is surprising how the Augusta area, although just minutes from Margaret River, is sometimes overlooked by visitors to the region,” Mr Kucera said.
“This funding is aimed at raising awareness, improving facilities and trying to bring more visitors into the picturesque coastal resort. Importantly, it will help generate much-needed jobs for the town.”
The funds will be used to upgrade the lighthouse and produce new signage and interpretive materials, as well as improving public amenity.
It is planned the work will generate up to 12 new jobs within five years.
