An initiative designed to help regional tourism operators and small business owners expand their business will be held in Kununurra next month.
Tourism Minister Bob Kucera said the ‘Better Business Blitz’ initiative would visit Australia’s North-West region for the first time, providing regional tourism operators with access to on-the-ground expertise.
The program involves the Western Australian Tourism Commission working with the Small Business Development Corporation, Tourism Council WA and the Hospitality and Tourism Industry Training Council to help regional businesses grow.
“This is an innovative and strategic program that has been developed in direct response to what the regions told us they wanted,” Mr Kucera said.
The blitz includes an intensive one-day workshop on how to develop their business through improved education and training, marketing, research and development.
International marketing expert and founder of Terrific Trading Jurek Leon will run the Kununurra workshop and provide practical tips to improve selling and service. Mr Leon has more than 15 years’ experience as a consultant and trainer and will provide participants with the tools they need to maximise their business potential.
“Tourism and business development experts will be in the region in the days following the seminar to individually assess the product and presentation of businesses and offer feedback on how they can be improved,” the Minister said.
“This is an opportunity for operators to get first-hand feedback from industry experts.
“Tourism is a key economic driver for WA, and an important industry in regional areas such as Australia’s North-West.”
The tourism industry employs around 54,000 Western Australians and contributes some $2.2billion to the State economy each year.
The first ‘Better Business Blitz’ was held in Exmouth earlier this year, with more scheduled for the Swan Valley, Pemberton and Esperance.
