Fremantle line train users are being asked to comment on a plan to extend evening train services to Loch Street and Grant Street stations.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the proposal was to alternate stopping patterns at Loch St, Grant St, Karrakatta and Swanbourne train stations so that each station received an hourly service.
“Community consultation will commence today and, if acceptable, the new service patterns will commence in late November,” Ms MacTiernan said.
"The proposal provides a balance between cost savings and service delivery at the four stations all of which attract low levels of patronage.
"These services would replace the existing evening shuttle bus, but still maintain cost savings in the order of $300,000 per year.”
Ms MacTiernan said that the proposal essentially involved establishing two stopping patterns for evening services.
“One service would stop hourly at Grant and Loch Street from 7.00pm - but not at Karrakatta or Swanbourne,” she said.
“The other service would stop hourly from 7.30pm at Karrakatta and Swanbourne, but not at Loch and Grant Street.”
Information brochures, which include a comment form, will be distributed by letterbox drop to residents living in the vicinity.
Western Australian Government Railways Commission staff will also distribute brochures at the four stations, and information posters will be displayed in the trains.
People can request a brochure, by calling the TransPerth info line 13 62 13.
Returned comment forms will be accepted up until Friday, November 15, 2002.
