Weekend train services to Loch and Grant Street stations on the Fremantle line will start again this weekend.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said Transperth would provide an hourly day-time service on weekends to both stations starting tomorrow (Saturday, October 12).
“Services to both Fremantle and Perth will be operating hourly from each station between the hours of 9am to 7pm on Saturday and Sunday,” Ms MacTiernan said.
"Weekend services to these stations were cut last month to enable four car sets to be used to serve the growing weekend demand on the Fremantle line.
“However, after listening to community concerns I asked WA Government Railways to reconfigure the timetable to allow for hourly services to be reinstated.”
Ms MacTiernan said this would enable four car sets to be used on the majority of weekend trips while still providing a service to Loch and Grant Stations.
“This provides a better balance of competing interests,” she said.
The decision follows the recent announcement to provide a half-hourly shuttle bus service between Karrakatta and Loch Street stations and Swanbourne and Grant Street stations between 7pm and midnight weekday evenings, which started on Monday, September 16, 2002.
The Minister has also asked WAGR to look at timetable configurations that would allow night services to be reinstated to Loch and Grant stations.
