    State Government grant to help big equestrian event in Albany

    Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore has approved a $1,500 grant to help fund Equitopia 2001.

    Mr Moore announced the Sports Lottery Fund Country Package grant to the Albany Race Club today.

    The event runs till February 11.

    Equitopia 2001 will see horses and riders from throughout the State come together to compete and display a variety of disciplines.

    Features of the event will include Mrs Julie Higgins, Australia’s first gold medallist in dressage at the Sydney 2000 Para Olympics.

    “The objectives of the festival are to encourage partnerships and collaboration between all facets of the industry, to boost regional pride and to develop a showcase event,” Mr Moore said.

    “Funding such as this from the Sports Lottery Fund Country Package helps create the setting in which the future development of sports can be addressed with long-term benefits to the region.”
