Swimmers from the Carnarvon Amateur Swimming Club will get help to travel to the 2001 Country Pennants, thanks to State Government funding.

Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore today announced the $1,500 boost to the club from the Sports Lottery Fund Country Package.

About 1,500 people are expected to take part in the pennants, which will be held in Port Hedland in early March.

“I am delighted that this money will help in the development of young swimmers in the Gascoyne,” Mr Moore said.

“Every young sportsperson nurtures dreams of reaching the top one day.

“I hope this grant may help a Gascoyne youngster on his or her way to achieve that goal and that many others will enjoy their swimming more.

“These programs help make sport successful in regional areas and I am glad the State Government has been able to help.”
