Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery is how Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore has described Labor’s Sport and Recreation Policy.

“Most of the initiatives are simply a continuation of existing programs which were introduced by the Coalition Government,” Mr Moore said.

“The press release, however, contains one glaring inaccuracy - the Government has in fact doubled the financial support it provides to the Western Australian Institute of Sport - from $1.5 million in 1992-93 to
    $3 million this year.

“On top of this, the Government has provided $2 million to WAIS to build a state-of-the-art sports science facility.

“The proposal to vary Community Sporting and Recreation Facility Fund grants to allow for a 50 per cent State contribution is a direct take of a proposal already put by me to local government.

“This, or a similar proposal, will be included in the Government’s Sport and Recreation Policy.”
