    Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore has announced more than $8,500 in grants for sport and recreation in the Mid-West region.

    The grants, from the Sports Lottery Fund Country Package, are:
    • $6,000 to the Mid-West Football Development Trust to help with the development of football for the 2000-2001 season, including the employment of a regional development officer, increasing participation in football and improving coaching standards;
    • $2,000 to the Northern Country Zone Ladies Bowls to help with the administration of programs, travel to competitions and promotion of the sport; and -
    • $530 to the Greenough River Rowing Club to conduct a development weekend with coaching clinics on the river. The funding will also help coaches with travel expenses for coach education programs.

    Mr Moore said he was delighted that the State Government had been able to support these groups in the Mid-West.

    “The Sports Lottery Fund Country Package allows groups in regional areas to develop tomorrow’s champions at the same time helping those who just want to take part and enjoy sport,” he said.

    The Sports Lottery Fund Country Package is administered by the Ministry of Sport and Recreation.
