Deputy Premier and Regional Development Minister Hendy Cowan has announced the appointment of Mr Bruce Manning as Director of the Great Southern Development Commission.
Mr Cowan said that Mr Manning had an extensive background in regional and rural development, natural resource management, business and strategic policy development.
He currently holds the position of Executive Officer with the Southern Province Projects Group, a non-profit service organisation involved in economic and community development issues. In this capacity, Mr Manning has been leading the proposal for a Natural Resource Management Centre of Excellence in Albany.
Mr Manning is also chairperson of the Albany Business Enterprise Centre and was Regional Manager of Great Southern Regional College for three years in the mid-nineties.
Mr Cowan said he was pleased to be able to announce the appointment of a person of Mr Manning’s calibre and was confident he would bring strong management skills and a strategic focus to the Commission.
“The Great Southern Region is diverse in demographic and economic terms and the Development Commission will play an important role in ensuring that its economic and social potential is fully realised,” he said.
