Premier to open new playground fun in Bunbury
5/10/2000 1:04 PM
A new playground specially built for children of all ages and abilities, will be ready to use this weekend at Bunbury’s Jetty Baths Park.
On Saturday, Premier Richard Court will officially open the new playground - a joint initiative of the Variety Club of Western Australia and the State Government.
The playground has been built at Jetty Baths Park, as part of the Marlston Hill project - itself a highly successful residential development that has won national acclaim.
Mr Court said the playground would add to the strong community and family feeling of the revitalised area, which already was being enjoyed by a lot of people from the Bunbury and Australind areas.
“The Variety Club works very hard at many events each year to improve the quality of life of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and as the State Government, we are delighted to work with them on this very worthwhile project,” he said.
“The playground has been built to inspire and excite all children, including those with disabilities.
“For example, the playground incorporates sensory elements so children can enjoy the equipment not only by sight and touch, but also by sound.”
Mr Court said the Variety Club had given an enormous amount to children throughout Western Australia, including the Variety Special Playground at the Perth Zoo.
The playground opening on Saturday will coincide with the Bash Cars fundraising event from Perth to Bunbury this week.
