Tourism Minister Norman Moore has congratulated Kununurra for its success at the Country Tourism Association awards night in Albany at the weekend.

Kununurra earned a commendation and $5000, for the professional presentation of their tourism product and for achieving a sound partnership between local government and tour operators.

The GWN Brand WA Top Tourism Town Award and $35,000 went to Albany and Northam won a $15,000 GWN Airtime Marketing Package.

The Golden West Network and the State Government are major sponsors of the awards.

Mr Moore said that Kununurra was one of a record 16 towns which contested the award.

“The standard of entries was so high this year that the judges took the unusual step of visiting all 16 towns which nominated for the award,” he said.

“Kununurra can therefore be very proud of the fact that the commendation and $5000 award meant their entry was one of the best received.”

The Minister said the awards had been strongly supported, with more than 140 people turning up for the awards night in Albany.

He urged towns throughout the State to seriously consider entering the awards when they are held in Kalgoorlie-Boulder next year.

“We have much to be proud of in regional Western Australia, and these awards give even more prestige to those who take part,” he said.
