Water Resources Minister Dr Kim Hames today officially opened the Water and Rivers Commission’s new information centre as part of National Water Week 2000.

Dr Hames congratulated the commission on delivering a streamlined information service to the general public, other Government agencies and industry groups.

The centre was unveiled to the Western Australian public as a user-friendly, one-stop shop for information on water quantity, quality, location and management.

Dr Hames said access to the commission’s library resources - with educational displays, scientific publications and policy statements - would be of great benefit to the community.

“Friendly staff at the centre will assist visitors in locating documented information on any of the State’s water resources,” he said.

The information centre can provide access to reports, books, journals, maps, videos, posters and online water resource data.

The centre can also retrieve information on algal blooms, catchments, environment and conservation, drainage, estuaries, flood data, groundwater, hydrogeology, urban and regional development, riparian areas, salinity, rivers, streams, wetlands, dams, water supply and trading and other related materials.

The information centre is located at the commission’s head office in the Hyatt Centre, Level 2, 3 Plain Street East Perth.
