Information on home building, renovation and ‘Do-it-Yourself’ (DIY) will be available from the Ministry of Fair Trading at this year’s New Home Expo at the Burswood Dome, which opens today and continues over the weekend.

“The expo is a great opportunity for people to get information on building products and services,” Fair Trading Minister Doug Shave said.

“However, it’s also important to know your rights and responsibilities before signing up for what can be some of the most expensive purchases we ever make.”

Fair Trading officers will be available during the three days of the expo to provide up-to-date information and advice on a range of building and tenancy matters.

“Based on the number of questions from seniors at previous expos, Fair Trading staff will have the booklet ‘So You Are Thinking of Moving Into a Retirement Home’ available at this year’s expo,” Mr Shave said.

Consumers who make purchases at the expo are reminded that while there is no cooling-off period, standard refund and exchange regulations still apply.

Further information about these regulations can be obtained from the Fair Trading Call Centre on 1300 30 40 54.
