Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore said today the announcement of a Davis Cup tie for Perth was fantastic news.
The Australia-Ecuador clash at Royal Kings Park Tennis Club from February 9-11 next year meant that Western Australia would be hosting two international-standard events in successive weekends.
“Golf followers will have the Heineken Classic at the Vines, from Thursday, February 1, to Sunday, February 4,” Mr Moore said.
“Tennis lovers will have the first-round Davis Cup tie under the new leadership of John Fitzgerald and Wally Masur on the following Friday, Saturday and Sunday.”
Mr Moore, who is also Tourism Minister, said it was a feast of sport which added to Western Australia’s reputation as a host for world-class sporting events.
