Swimming and golf in the Midlands region are to benefit from State Government grants announced by Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore.

He said that a total of $7,265 had been made available from the Sports Lottery Fund Country Package.

The Central Midlands Region of the WA Swimming Association would get a $5,000 grant to fund its 2000-2001 swimming development program.

Priority areas included junior development, regional training squads, coach and officials’ training courses and travel to regional competitions.

Mr Moore said he had also approved a grant of $2,265 to the Quairading Golf Club.

The club would put the grant towards programs aimed at attracting new players to the game and developing the skills of juniors.

“I am delighted to have been able to support these groups in the Midlands,” Mr Moore said.

“The Sports Lottery Fund Country Package allows groups in regional areas to develop tomorrow’s champions.

“It also helps people who just want to take part in, and enjoy, sport.”

The Sports Lottery Fund Country Package is a Ministry of Sport and Recreation initiative.
