Junior sailors in the South-West region will benefit from a $1500 grant announced by Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore today.
Mr Moore said that the Augusta Yacht Club would use the Sports Lottery Fund Country Package funding to host the 43rd State Pelican Championships next January.
The championships are rotated each year from city to country areas and this is the first time the Augusta Yacht Club will host the event.
Mr Moore said he was delighted to be able to provide the funding.
“The State Government knows how important sport is in country areas,” he said.
“We want to make sure that people are able to make the most of their sporting and recreational opportunities.
“Through State Government initiatives like this, regional areas can ensure their athletes are given every chance to take part.”
The Sports Lottery Fund Country Package is a Ministry of Sport and Recreation initiative.
