The Shire of Broome today received a certificate of Excellence Award from Local Government Minister Paul Omodei for the quality of its 1999-2000 budget.
On a visit to Broome, Mr Omodei said the shire had shown great diligence to gain a ranking of seven out of the 145 budgets examined.
“The shire has vastly improved its position in the rankings from a position of 113 in the 1998-1999 review to a position of excellence last financial year,” he said.
The Minister said council budgets were assessed by the Department of Local Government for their level of compliance with legislative requirements, general presentation and provision of information to the reader.
