Premier Richard Court has rejected claims that his arrival yesterday at the World Economic Forum in Melbourne had been contrary to Police instructions and served to provoke violent demonstrations.
Mr Court said his office had, on numerous occasions, sought details on arrival and registration arrangements for the conference. Organisers were aware that he would be arriving by car.
“We were given instructions on what route to take and which entrance to use,” he said.
“We followed those instructions and when we approached the conference centre a police officer waved us through.
“To say we were told otherwise is wrong.
“The next time we attend a convention in Melbourne we will again triple check the arrangements to see whether we should arrive by car, coach, ferry, helicopter or tank.”
