Agricultural societies in Gidgegannup and Swan View are among 31 organisations throughout the State to receive funding this year to enhance facilities at local shows and festivals promoting rural products.

Regional Development Minister Hendy Cowan said the Gidgegannup Agricultural Society was awarded $4,000 under the Grants for Rural Show Displays Scheme administered by the Department of Commerce and Trade. The grant would be used to provide new roofing for cattle pens at the Gidgegannup Show.

The Swan View and Districts Agricultural Society was awarded $2,508 to purchase display stands for the Swan View Show.

Mr Cowan said rural shows were important events as they helped showcase the innovation and achievements of agricultural producers.

The State Government provided more than $83,000 this year in grants to organisations across the State to build or improve show infrastructure ranging from pavilions and seating to livestock pens and display stands.

“The grants not only enable new facilities to be built, but help ensure professional and attractive displays and events,” Mr Cowan said.

The funds are allocated on the basis of $2 Government funds for every $1 from applicants, to a maximum of $4,000.
