    Extra shopping for Christmas and New Year

    Fair Trading Minister Doug Shave has accepted recommendations for extended Christmas and New Year Trading shopping hours for the Perth metropolitan area recommended by the Retail Shops Advisory Committee.

    "The committee has taken into account the views of many different interest groups in arriving at its recommendations,”
    Mr Shave said.

    “The extended hours balance the needs of the community at this busy time and give staff time to enjoy the season with family and friends.”

    All shops will be able to open on the two Sundays before Christmas (December 17 and 24) and stay open until 9pm on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before Christmas.

    Small shops (exempted general retail) and special shops already have extended trading hours throughout the year. The extended hours over Christmas and New Year do not apply to motor vehicle dealers.

    Trading hours for Christmas and New Year will be:

    Sunday 17 Noon - 6pm (all shops)
    Mon 18, Tues 19 Normal
    Wed 20, Thurs 21, Fri 22 8am - 9pm (all shops)
    Saturday 23 Normal
    Sunday 24Noon - 6pm (all shops)
    Christmas DayClosed
    Boxing DayClosed
    Wed 27, Thurs 28, Fri 29, Sat 30Normal
    Sunday 31Normal (Noon - 6pm, Perth and Fremantle only)
    Monday 1Closed
    Tuesday 2Normal

    Local councils outside the Perth metropolitan area can apply for trading hours that meet the needs of their communities.
