Conservation projects winners in BP Education Grants for Schools
31/08/2000 8:05 PM
Conservation projects featured prominently at the BP Education Grants for Schools Awards which were presented at a special dinner tonight.
Speaking at the dinner Education Minister Colin Barnett said the BP Grants for Schools program was aimed at forging links between schools and industry.
He said funding was available for any initiative which enhanced learning beyond the traditional classroom situation.
The learning project had to add value to the school, community and business environment.
This was the third year Western Australian schools had been involved in the education grants.
“The BP Grants illustrate the diversity of thinking and practical application which characterised schools today,” Mr Barnett said.
“These awards are consistent with our progression towards local management which gives schools the opportunity to have a say over their own affairs.
“They also bring parents into he decision-making, planning and development of schools and include the wider community.”
