Housing Minister Kim Hames has appointed two new members to the State Housing Commission Board.

Dr Hames said both appointments brought valuable experience to the board and had settled in well to their new positions.

Mr Peter Unsworth, executive director of stockbroking firm Paterson Ord Minnett, has been appointed for a one-year term.

Mr Unsworth was general manager of the Perth Stock Exchange in the 1970’s and joined Paterson Ord Minnett in 1989 to head up its corporate finance division.

In 1993, he was one of the four members of the special McCarrey Commission appointed by the State Government to report on the State’s finances and make sweeping recommendations for change.

Ms Jeanice Krakouer is the second new face on the board. She has been appointed chairperson of the Aboriginal Housing Board, which automatically means she takes a seat on the State Housing Commission Board.

Ms Krakouer brings a wealth of housing and community knowledge to both positions.

She has been employed as housing manager with the Southern Aboriginal Housing Corporation since 1986 and has been a member of the Kaata-Wangkinyiny Regional Council for two terms, serving one term as deputy chairperson.

Ms Krakouer is a member of numerous committees including the National Community Housing Forum, the National Indigenous Community Housing Project and National Organisation for Aboriginal Housing.

She grew up in Mt Barker and lives with her two children in Albany.
