New Commissioner of Main Roads named
3/05/2000 5:42 PM
Transport Minister Murray Criddle said today that Greg Martin had been confirmed as Commissioner of Main Roads Western Australia.
Mr Martin, 53, who has been Acting Commissioner since February, 1999, is a former Executive Director Metropolitan Transport in the Department of Transport.
Prior to joining Transport in WA, Mr Martin had a long career in design, construction, resource management and project and corporate management in the Commonwealth Government.
“Greg joined Main Roads at a critical time in its transition from a direct builder and provider of roads and associated services to the role of manager of the State’s road asset and network,” Mr Criddle said.
“He is well positioned to guide Main Roads into the future while ensuring the delivery of the Government’s road construction and maintenance program.
“Greg’s responsibilities in the past have given him a strong understanding of the importance to WA of an efficient, integrated transport system.”
Mr Martin said today that Main Roads was adjusting well to its new operating environment and that its people had embraced the organisational changes with confidence.
“Main Roads will continue to provide balanced and responsible management of the State's $10 billion plus road asset and road network,” he said.
“There will be a strong emphasis on road-user needs and I am confident that through the quality of our work, Main Roads will be acknowledged by the wider community for the balance it brings to all its deliberations and actions.”
