Local Government Minister Paul Omodei has offered to facilitate the appointment of a mediator to help to restore harmony to the operations of the Melville City Council.
Mr Omodei said he had met the Mayor, Katie Mair, this morning after meeting with the majority of councillors last week.
Both meetings had been useful and he had now offered to arrange a mediator, to be agreed to by both sides of the dispute, to try to bridge the gap between the mayor and the council.
“The mayor and the councillors are elected by their community and ultimately are answerable to the community, but with no elections due for almost 12 months, I am looking for ways to help Melville out of its difficulties,” Mr Omodei said.
