Transport Minister Eric Charlton has appointed an independent facilitator to report on the proposed Bridgetown Bypass issue.

Mr Charlton said that Maureen McDaniell, of McDaniell Associates, would begin immediately assessing the social, safety and economic issues of the proposed road project.

He said Mrs McDaniell had extensive experience in community consultation, including working for local government on environmental and urban renewal issues.

"I am confident that Mrs McDaniell is fully conversant with all matters associated with the bypass situation and will quickly be in a position to meet with local community groups and individuals," the Minister said.

"Mrs McDaniell's brief is to seek out the views of all sections of the community so that we can have the best available information on which to make a decision quickly. She will report back to me within three months.

"It is important for the community that once all the information is in, we make a decision immediately."

Mrs McDaniell's appointment fulfills a commitment given by Mr Charlton during discussions with groups and individuals in Bridgetown.
