Communities in Western Australia's South-West will share more than $5,000 to organise Celebrate WA Proclamation Day events.

This year Western Australia's Proclamation Day will be the focus of the 10 days of celebrations.

Commerce and Trade Minister Hendy Cowan said today that the Government had given more than $40,000 to 75 community groups throughout the State to help them organise events from October 18 to 27.

"I am delighted by the enthusiastic response and the range of innovative ways local communities have found to celebrate one of the most significant events in the State's history," Mr Cowan said.

"This year's theme, ‘Together We Make The Difference' will celebrate the contributions, achievements and influences of multicultural Western Australians from the original inhabitants to the latest arrivals.

"Many of WA's diverse cultural groups have organised displays, discussion groups, sporting events and festivals.

"Events in the South-West include a multicultural festival in Bunbury and a celebration of 75 years of group settlement in Margaret River."

The funding program is a joint initiative of Celebrate WA, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Department of Commerce and Trade
