Assisting Justice Minister Kevin Minson announced today further funding of $126,000 for a local organisation which provides critical support for young people at risk.
The Geraldton Street Work Aboriginal Corporation is one of 13 non-Government organisations around the State to receive a 12-month extension of funding from the Ministry of Justice's Juvenile Justice Division.
The Ministry has allocated the grant to take the Geraldton Street Work Aboriginal Corporation through to June 30 next year.
"The corporation is highly regarded, both in the wider community and by the Ministry of Justice," Mr Minson said.
"It provides a street work presence, making contact with young people in locations where they congregate, as well as offering youth support services, centre-based activities and supervision of community work orders."
Mr Minson said the Ministry made funding available to a wide range of community organisations to provide locally-based support services for young people who had offended or were at risk of offending.
"These organisations provide vital support to address the personal, social and economic disadvantages contributing to the problems of juvenile crime," he said.
