Funding of $90,000 has been approved for a local organisation which helps young people to gain employment, Assisting Justice Minister Kevin Minson said.

The Nyininy Aboriginal Corporation is one of 13 non-government organisations to receive funding for 12 months from the Justice Ministry's Juvenile Justice Division.

The corporation's grant is to run a pilot workshop-based work skills training project in Collie.

The project will initially focus on automotive skills training, however once fully established, other manual workshop skills will be offered.

"The primary aim of the service is to channel participants into employment or further training programs," Mr Minson said.

"The Ministry of Justice makes funding available to a wide range of community organisations to provide locally-based support services for young people who have offended or are at risk of offending."
