Funding of $88,958 has been approved for a program operated by Holyoake, which helps young offenders and their parents, Assisting Justice Minister Kevin Minson said today.

The Adolescent and Parent Drug Information Service is one of 13 non-Government organisations around the State to receive a 12-month extension of funding from the Justice Ministry's Juvenile Justice Division.

Mr Minson said the Holyoake program provided an opportunity for selected young offenders and their parents to attend information sessions on drug addiction.

"The Adolescent and Parent Drug Information Service can act as a diversionary option for the Children's Court," he said.

"If the young person satisfactorily completes the required session, a report is provided to the court and the offence is struck off the record."

Mr Minson said Holyoake also accepts direct referrals from Juvenile Justice Teams.
