Further funding has been approved for the Belmont Aboriginal Neighbourhood Centre which provides critical support for young people at risk, Assisting Justice Minister Kevin Minson announced today.

The centre is one of 13 non-Government organisations around the State to receive a 12-month funding extension from the Justice Ministry's Juvenile Justice Division.

The centre provides a program for young people and caters for a range of service needs including recreational and leisure activities, social skills development, employment and education support and an automotive skills program. It also provides a street work service.

The Ministry has allocated a grant of $37,500 to take the centre through to June 30 next year.

Mr Minson said the Ministry of Justice made funding available to a wide range of community organisations to provide locally-based support services for young people who had offended or were at risk of offending.

"These organisations provide vital support to address the personal, social and economic disadvantage that contributes to the problems of juvenile crime," the Minister said.
