Funding of $90,000 has been approved for Carnarvon Shire's administration of youth programs, Assisting Justice Minister Kevin Minson said today.
The Shire of Carnarvon administers a number of programs which address the needs of offending and `at risk' young people in the region.
The Justice Ministry's Juvenile Justice Division has provided the grant to the shire, which is one of 13 non-Government organisations around the State to receive 12-month funding.
Mr Minson said a program for young people in the area excluded from mainstream school had recently been established through this type of funding.
Other activities administered through the shire include sporting and recreational programs, camps and school holiday programs.
Mr Minson said the Ministry made funding available to a wide range of community organisations to provide locally-based support services for young people who had offended or were at risk of offending.
"These organisations provide support to address the personal, social and economic disadvantages that add to the risk of juvenile offending," he said.
