Many State public servants will be paid by the private sector in a contract awarded to computer company Fujitsu Australia.

The outsourcing division of Fujitsu Australia Ltd, CCFM, was recently awarded the contract to supply personnel and payroll systems for up to 70 Western Australian Government agencies.

Announcing the contract today, Services Minister Kevin Minson said this was the first contract of its type in WA, and heralded a new era of co-operation between Government and private sector service providers.

"Fujitsu will provide Government agencies with a choice of first-rate payroll and personnel systems, together with a payroll processing service," Mr Minson said.

"The Department of State Services and Fujitsu Australia have worked together to ensure the contract framework is focused on individual customer needs."

The five-year contract is worth $10 million, with the option of a one-year extension.

Mr Minson said that since computer systems were changing on a daily basis, the Government wanted to allow for flexibility and competition in the contract as they entered the 21st century.

Fujitsu's newly established business unit will be located in the Perth CBD.

The personnel and payroll function was previously carried out by employees in the Department of State Services (DoSS).

Some 20 employees will be transferring to Fujitsu, to deliver the high standard of customer service required in a contract of this nature.

Fujitsu Executive Director Dennis Hughes said he was very pleased with the contract and staff who had previously undertaken the work at the Department of State Services.

Under the new arrangement, departments will have the security of committed service level agreements covering the Government payroll systems, the Personnel Information Management System, or a combined system called the Common Use Facility which is tailored for Government use.

The Common Use Facility is an integrated human resource and payroll system.

A presentation to WA Government agencies was held this week by the Department of State Services and Fujitsu Australia (CCFM) to explain the new system arrangements and the options available to agencies.
