Mines Minister George Cash today released a guide to members of the Goldfields media on the importance of the minerals industry in Western Australia and the role of the Department of Minerals and Energy.
The publication was developed as part of an initiative by the department to improve its service to Goldfields media outlets.
Mr Cash, who is also Minister assisting the Premier on Public Sector Management, said the media guide was part of the Coalition Government's customer focus program and its commitment to improve public sector management.
"A more efficient public sector has a special role to play in Western Australia's growth up to and beyond the year 2000," he said.
"Public servants contribute by providing valuable services to the community.
"I congratulate the department for its initiative in producing this media guide for the benefit of one of its major clients - the print and electronic media in Kalgoorlie."
The media guide indicates that minerals worth in excess of $2,184 million were produced from the Goldfields/Esperance region last year.
