Peel Minister David Templeman today launched seven exciting new tourism packages developed by local businesses to lure more travellers to the region.

The ‘Escape for a While’ packages, developed with the assistance of Peel Development Commission as part of the State Government’s Pinjarra Brunswick Sustainability Strategy, aim to capitalise on the region’s natural beauty and exciting attractions.

A total of 14 regional businesses are involved in the promotion, which includes indulgence packages for couples and groups, family packages, and a golf package.

“The Peel Region is an exciting part of Western Australia and these packages will help promote it as an extremely appealing and convenient alternative to the usual holiday destinations,” Mr Templeman said.

“Our region boasts some unique and stunning attractions that make it an excellent destination for international and domestic visitors alike.”

The Minister said $2.6million had been provided by the State Government in 2006 to progress the Pinjarra Brunswick Sustainability Strategy.

“As part of the strategy, $445,000 was allocated to the Peel Development Commission to support local tourism businesses to develop marketable tourism packages,” he said.

“This project is a clear demonstration of the Carpenter Government’s commitment to supporting innovative strategies to strengthen our regional businesses and grow our regional communities.”

Peel Development Commission CEO Maree De Lacey said the promotion had already sparked interest.

“We are already seeing interest from media and tourism wholesalers in promoting these exciting new products in the Peel Region,” Ms De Lacey said.

“This is a great sign that this initiative will encourage people to explore this beautiful part of WA.”

The project is being managed in partnership with Tourism WA, the City of Mandurah, the Shire of Murray, the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale, Experience Perth,

Peel Chamber of Commerce, and Small Business Centre Peel.

The businesses involved in the promotion include:
