Opposition Leader Troy Buswell has once again shown his inexperience, immaturity and lack of research in his comments over the current gas shortage.

In a media statement issued today, Mr Buswell said small businesses without pipe links to get gas “would have to organise road transportation”.

Anyone with an ounce of knowledge about this issue would know that this gas cannot be transported to the affected customer by road.

It is a fundamental and embarrassing mistake.

It comes only two weeks after Mr Buswell said we should replace all gas with diesel in our power stations, a move that would have led to wholesale residential blackouts within 10-15 hours.

The Opposition has been responsible for some shameful comments throughout this entire gas shortage.

Opposition Upper House Leader Norman Moore showed his arrogance by upsetting businesses impacted by the shortage when he told householders not to help out by cutting back their energy use.

And discredited former Energy Minister Colin Barnett’s solution to the current gas shortage was to re-write history by suggesting we should have built another State-owned gas-fired power station back in 2004.

This comes from an Opposition that, while in Government, privatised the Dampier to Bunbury pipeline and the entire gas network for homes and businesses.

This left the entire system exposed to this type of incident, and Government without proper regulatory or legislative levers.”
