    Byford public transport in focus

Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today announced a State Government commitment to funding a comprehensive transport plan to underpin the future planning of Byford.

The State Government will initially directly fund $30,000 towards the plan, with an additional $15,000 from a State Regional Development Scheme grant to the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale.

The commitment follows the announcement of a State Government vision for expanding the public transport system, which included a future extension of the Armadale line to Byford.

Ms MacTiernan said an early step in the transport plan included a comprehensive survey of the travel patterns of Byford residents.

“We would encourage Byford residents to participate in the survey so we have good quality information. This is needed to get the right services to the right places,” the Minister said.

“We’ll also be working on population projections for Byford, which will give us a clearer understanding of when we will need the rail service.

“Furthermore, we will explore with the council how we can best plan for the future development of Byford to maximise potential patronage.”
