A barrister and solicitor with extensive litigation experience has been appointed as a judge of the District Court of Western Australia.

Attorney General Jim McGinty today announced the appointment of Stephen Scott to the District Court.

“Mr Scott is a well-respected barrister and solicitor with many years experience in both civil and criminal litigation,” Mr McGinty said.

“He is the senior partner of the law firm Stables Scott, where he has practised for 30 years, and has extensive experience before the District Court.

“Mr Scott graduated from The University of Western Australia in 1971 and completed his articles at Parker and Parker.

“He has strong links to the WA community.  In the 1970s, Mr Scott played 109 games for Claremont Football Club and was vice captain of the team in 1977.

“He has also been a regular contributor to talk-back law programs on both the ABC and 6PR.”

Mr Scott will replace Judge Peter Nisbet QC, who retires from the District Court on June 20.

Mr Scott will take up his new position on July 1.
