Energy Minister Francis Logan has welcomed Western Power’s decision to provide daily information about household energy use on its website.

Mr Logan said Western Australians were being encouraged to reduce their energy use during the current gas shortage following the explosion and fire at Apache Energy’s gas processing facility on Varanus Island.

The Minister said the response from Western Australians had been fantastic, with five per cent reductions in energy use being recorded at peak morning and evening times in recent days.

“WA householders are making a difference during the current energy shortage,” he said.

“Western Power’s decision to publish daily energy use will allow all householders to see the results of their actions.

“I would like to encourage the various arms of the media to publish this information.

”I would also encourage Alinta to publish similar figures on gas consumption.”

Mr Logan said the easiest way to reduce energy use during winter was to cut shower times, minimise the use of heaters and turn off lights.
