A contract has been awarded to undertake gravel sheeting and sealing works on the Marble Bar Road in the State’s Pilbara Region.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced today that a contract to carry out the works has been awarded to the Main Roads Term Network Contractor, BGC Contracting, who would work together with staff from the Main Roads Pilbara Region.
Ms MacTiernan said the project would involve the resheeting of just over 10km of unsealed gravel road, as well as drainage and waterway improvement works.
“The State Government, through Main Roads, is progressively upgrading the unsealed sections of Marble Bar Road through an annual resheeting program,” she said.
“This latest work will be carried out on two unsealed sections of road and on completion, both sections will be sealed.”
Local MLA Tom Stephens said the works would improve the safety and efficiency of Marble Bar Road, which was a major transport route for local communities, homesteads, tourism and mining activities in the region.
The contract is due to commence at the end of June and be completed in August 2008.
