    10/04/2008 12:00 AM

Wheatbelt Minister Kim Chance has launched the 2008-09 Wheatbelt Regional Development Scheme (WRDS), which will make $500,000 available for innovative regional development projects.

The scheme is part of the State Government’s $80million Regional Investment Fund, which is used to improve the social and economic development of regional Western Australia.

“The Government is committed to the ongoing successful development and enhancement of Wheatbelt industries and communities,” Mr Chance said.

“The Regional Investment Fund supports hundreds of job-creating projects throughout the State, providing a broad range of quality services to all Western Australians, regardless of where they live.

“The scheme gives priority to activities that support co-operation between local governments and develop and market regional advantage, as well as industries that expand the region’s economic base and marketing partnerships.”

Eligible applicants may include local government, voluntary organisations, business groups, educational institutions, philanthropic foundations and community organisations.

The Wheatbelt Development Commission administers the scheme and Expressions of Interest for funding close on May 22.
