Premier Alan Carpenter and his Cabinet are heading to Albany to meet members of the community, local governments and business representatives on Tuesday, March 4 and Wednesday, March 5.
Mr Carpenter said the State Government initiative was designed to foster greater communication between local communities and Cabinet.
“I am very happy that Albany has been chosen to kick off Cabinet’s program of regional visits for 2008,” he said.
“It will give the city and region the opportunity to showcase themselves and, most importantly, enable Ministers to hear from the local people first hand.
“This is the 43rd regional Cabinet since the Labor Government was elected in 2001 and the fourth time Albany has been chosen to host the event, including one in 2004 which coincided with the first-ever Regional Parliament.”
A key feature of Cabinet’s visit will be Meet the Minister, to be held on March 4, where local people will be able to discuss issues directly with Ministers.
On Wednesday, the City of Albany will deliver a presentation of local issues to Cabinet, followed by a formal Cabinet meeting and then a community lunch.
“The Government has made important contributions to Albany and the Great Southern in providing essential infrastructure - boosting confidence for local business and stimulating local jobs - as well as providing vital health, education and law and order services,” the Premier said.
“There is still much to be done to ensure we keep the momentum going and the visit by Cabinet will be a valuable opportunity to chart these future directions.”
Albany MLA Peter Watson congratulated the Government for choosing Albany to host the first regional Cabinet visit for 2008.
Mr Watson said he would keep the community informed about the Cabinet visit as more details came to hand.
