Treasurer tables ERA report on water tariffs

    17/01/2008 9:11 AM

Treasurer Eric Ripper has tabled a report by the independent Economic Regulation Authority (ERA) into Western Australia’s water tariff structure.

Mr Ripper said the report was part of the Government’s commitment to making transparent, accountable and responsible decisions regarding water and wastewater pricing.

“This report is independent advice to the Government on water pricing and its recommendations will be considered as part of the normal Budget process,” he said.

The Treasurer said the ERA inquiry into water prices was also tabled in Parliament last year.

“It means that the factors that underpin the Government’s water and wastewater pricing decisions are open to public scrutiny,” he said.

Mr Ripper said the Government asked the ERA to conduct an inquiry into the Water Corporation’s tariffs each year as part of the Budget process.

The ERA is an independent statutory body with expertise in the regulation of gas, electricity and water.
