Pilbara Minister Jon Ford recently announced the appointment of Stephen Webster to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Pilbara Development Commission (PDC).

The role of the PDC is to facilitate regional growth and prosperity in the Pilbara region, value-adding to economic and social development, while supporting and enhancing the region’s unique natural environment.

“Stephen’s appointment will enable the Pilbara Development Commission to continue as a progressive, strategically-focused and effective leader in the social and economic development of the Pilbara,” Mr Ford said.

“The Pilbara economy is crucial to the State, with almost half of Western Australia’s total export revenue already coming from this region and significant expansion commencing or planned.

“It is critical that the PDC works collaboratively to inform, partner and advocate for Pilbara stakeholders in accordance with regional priorities.”

Previously the Director of the Batavia Coast Maritime Institute in Geraldton and with a significant background in education and training, Mr Webster has already begun in his new role in the Pilbara. He said he was looking forward to ‘kicking some goals’ for the Pilbara in 2008.

“I’m very delighted to be appointed to the CEO position at this very exciting and challenging time for the Pilbara,” Mr Webster said.

“I’m looking forward to working with Government, resource companies and communities to achieve sustainable, economic development, while enhancing the quality of life for all people in the region.”
