Acting Premier Eric Ripper has offered his sincere condolences to the family and friends of Murdoch MLA and former sporting identity Trevor Sprigg, 61, who died suddenly today.

The Acting Premier said he was shocked and saddened by Mr Sprigg’s passing, which had come at an early stage of his parliamentary career, and offered support to his wife Lyn, their five children and six grandchildren.

“Although he was relatively new to Parliament, Mr Sprigg made a significant contribution to the sporting and political identity of Western Australia and his death has saddened all members of the Government,” Mr Ripper said.

“He was a stalwart of the East Fremantle Football Club, playing 152 league games, and also had a significant career as a sporting commentator.

“On behalf of the WA Government, I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to all of his loved ones.”
