An additional six two-bedroom units are planned to be added to Lancelin Aged Units in Atkinson Road, which will provide more affordable housing for elderly people in Lancelin.

The proposed $1.4million project is a joint venture between the Shire of Gingin, which operates the facility, and the Department of Housing and Works.

Regional Development Minister Jon Ford today announced the Shire of Gingin would receive $47,591 to support Stage Two of the development which would expand the complement of units to a total of 11.

“The Carpenter Government is very conscious of the need for seniors’ accommodation throughout the State, particularly in regional areas where suitable accommodation for the elderly is limited,” Mr Ford said.

“I am pleased that more secure and comfortable rental accommodation will be provided for elderly people in this area, which also offers access to first-class medical and home care facilities.

“I congratulate the Shire of Gingin for embarking on this initiative to provide high quality accommodation for its elderly, allowing them to enjoy independent living and stay within their community among family and friends.”

The grant is provided through the State Government’s Regional Headworks Program and will assist with the costs of providing water and sewerage to the extension.
