Culture and Arts Minister Sheila McHale today announced Dr Saliba Sassine as the new chairman of Western Australia’s Perth Theatre Trust (PTT).
Ms McHale said Dr Sassine had excellent leadership skills and would bring to the role extensive experience as a member of various government and arts boards.
An economist and executive chairman of boutique investment advisory firm Allegra Capital Pty Ltd, Dr Sassine has held chairman and CEO positions in a number of technology and emerging companies.
“The trust has a key role to play in the arts in WA and Dr Sassine has a great opportunity to stimulate it and harness the potential of Perth’s venues, alongside the companies producing and presenting in them,” the Minister said.
“With the Government’s announcement of the visionary ‘Ignite’ package, which includes an extra $600,000 for programming, Dr Sassine’s strategic planning abilities will be invaluable in leveraging the creative opportunities now available to the PTT.
“The trust will be responsible for the management of the new performing arts venue, and I look forward to working with it during this exciting time for WA’s performing arts.
“I would like to thank Harry Morgan AM for his dedication and tireless service as a board member since 1995 and as chairman for the past eight years.”
Ms McHale also announced the re-appointment of board members Marion Tye and Jenny McNae.
The PTT is responsible for the management of Perth’s premier performing arts venues - His Majesty’s Theatre, Perth Concert Hall, The Playhouse Theatre, Subiaco Arts Centre and Rechabites Hall - and for the management of BOCS Ticketing and Marketing.
Dr Sassine is a board member of the WA Academy of Performing Arts, was a board member of the Art Gallery of WA (1986-1999), chairman of the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (1992-1998), chairman of Artrage festival (1990-1992) and chairman of the Chrissie Parrot Dance Company (1993-1995).
