The background paper for the State Government’s Inquiry into the Operation of Franchise Businesses in Western Australia has been released today.

Small Business Minister Margaret Quirk said the inquiry, announced on November 2, provided an important opportunity to examine fairness in franchising arrangements.

“Although there is no evidence of systemic problems, this inquiry is an opportunity for the State Government to identify areas of concern within the franchising industry and to ascertain whether there is a fair and competitive environment for franchised businesses in WA,” Ms Quirk said.

The Minister is encouraging all interested parties to participate.

The background paper is available from the Small Business Development Corporation (SBDC) website at: http://www.sbdc.wa.gov.au. Details of public hearings will also be posted on this website when available.
