The winners of the Australia Post, Western Australian Regional Small Business Awards (WARSBA) and the Inductee to the Small Business Hall of Fame for 2007 were announced at a gala presentation in Perth tonight.

Small Business Minister Margaret Quirk said the calibre of entrants had been outstanding and to win from such a field was a great achievement.

“Small business is important to every community, but in regional WA it is absolutely vital,” Ms Quirk said.

“I continue to be inspired by the talent and entrepreneurial spirit of our small business operators in this great State.

“The quality of these finalists shows why the WA economy is leading the nation.”

The Minister congratulated the 38 finalists who travelled to Perth for the award presentation.

A new category added this year for ‘Best Franchise Business’ attracted finalists from Geraldton, Albany and Kalgoorlie.

The small business sector contributes billions of dollars to the WA economy and accounts for over half of all private sector, non-agricultural employment in the State.

“The WARSBAs are a fitting tribute to the success of this sector,” Ms Quirk said.

Over 250 guests from throughout the State attended the presentation, hosted by the Small Business Development Corporation at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.
